On 21 June 2025, a milestone international collaboration signing ceremony was held in Malaysia, marking the official launch of the Agartana Guardian Tree International Project. Led by Heartana Global Berhad, the project entered a tripartite agreement with AYKANG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a century-old Taiwanese traditional medicine company, and a royal medical institution from Malaysia.

Heartana founders Tan Yu Li and Xu Youwen stated that the collaboration centres on the Agartana Guardian Tree, promoting the integration of agarwood in cross-cultural healing, natural wellness, and traditional Chinese medicine R&D.

The Heartana Culture Hub, serving as the cultural base of the initiative, has long been dedicated to nature education, cultural preservation, and the continuation of blessing rituals in Asian families.

This project brings together AYKANG Pharmaceutical’s expertise, UTAR’s medical research platform, and Malaysian royal medical resources to create a regional model for modernising agarwood applications and traditional medicine in Asia.

The Agartana Guardian Tree symbolises protection for every family. From agarwood cultivation, seedling nurturing, and extraction to product development and the promotion of family heritage and values, Heartana Global Berhad advocates the concept of “one tree, one family,” aiming for each agarwood tree to convey the emotional language of memory, blessings, and legacy.

AYKANG Pharmaceutical CEO Zeng Shizhe stated:
“The modernisation of traditional Chinese medicine is not merely a technical upgrade—it represents the global extension of cultural values. This collaboration with Heartana Global Berhad and UTAR reflects how traditional medicine is no longer just a local asset of Taiwan, but a shared health platform connecting all of Asia and Muslim cultures.”

Dr. Cheng Chien Chiang from UTAR’s Traditional and Complementary Medicine Centre said:
“We are honoured to be part of this collaboration that bridges medicine and culture. It allows students and researchers to engage directly in the integration of industry and tradition—an experience of great educational value.”

A representative from the Malaysian royal medical institution added:
“Agarwood has long held a sacred place in our culture. Through the Guardian Tree Project, we are able to closely connect religion and science, culture and wellness—paving the way for agarwood to enter medical applications and the global market.”

In the future, the three parties will jointly work on developing integrated applications of agarwood and traditional Chinese medicine, promoting Halal-certified herbal products, and nurturing cross-cultural professionals in traditional medicine. The goal is to complete research, clinical validation, and commercial launch of agarwood-based medicines by 2026.

The Agartana Guardian Tree International Project will be anchored in Malaysia as the core site for cultivation and experimentation, while leveraging AYKANG Pharmaceutical’s pharmaceutical expertise in Taiwan and UTAR’s medical system. Together, they aim to establish a new international model platform integrating culture, medicine, and industry.
