In today’s fast-paced world, legacy is often equated solely with material wealth and traditional assets. However, the birth of the Agartana Guardian Tree introduces a deeper meaning to inheritance.
With the concept of the "Guardian Tree" at its core, Heartana Global Berhad has created the Agartana brand—carefully cultivating a rare agarwood tree that blends scientific care with traditional wisdom. It symbolises the passage of time and the continuation of life, offering a new form of legacy: a natural gift that can be passed down for generations, even centuries.
At the launch event, Heartana Global Berhad signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with two key partners to explore the future potential of agarwood in health and wellness applications. These partners include AYKANG Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., a renowned pharmaceutical company from Taiwan focused on the development and manufacturing of medicines and supplements, and Antah Pharma Sdn Bhd, a Malaysian pharmaceutical company specialising in product marketing, logistics, distribution management, product registration, and licensing services.
To further enhance research in the fields of science and wellness, Heartana also held an agarwood handover ceremony with the Department of Chinese Medicine and the Traditional and Complementary Medicine Centre of UTAR. A donation of 1 kilogram of premium Agartana agarwood was made to UTAR to mark the beginning of their scientific collaboration. This initiative will lead to a series of clinical trials and studies focused on the medicinal efficacy of agarwood in traditional health practices.
Heartana founder Tan Yu Li shared, “The Guardian Tree is more than a symbol; it is a living gift that represents health, legacy, and future hope.”
The Agartana Tree Park, located in Sungai Petani, Kedah, spans 20 acres and will accommodate up to 36,000 rare agarwood trees. An initial 10,000 trees will be opened to the public for adoption. Each tree is assigned a unique ID and QR-based tracking system, and is carefully tended to by a professional care team to manage its health and growth throughout its lifecycle.
The trees cultivated in this project are of the Ky Nam variety (Aquilaria Crassna), a rare and highly respected species often referred to as the “King of Agarwood”. Historically favoured by emperors, scholars, and perfumers, Ky Nam is known for its calming and centring effects. Harvesting may begin as early as the fifth year, when Agartana assists tree owners with the collection and packaging of resin-rich branches, while the main trunk remains rooted and continues to grow. As the tree matures, its agarwood becomes richer, rarer, and more valuable.
Each Guardian Tree grows in significance and natural worth over time, evolving into a living family heirloom. Tan Yu Li added, “After eleven years of development, Agartana carries a legacy steeped in the memory of time. It offers families a natural vessel to carry forward their stories, deepening over the years and connecting love, heritage, and nature in the most meaningful way. This isn’t a product—it’s a gift shaped by time.”
Agarwood is often referred to as the “gold of the woods”, one of the rarest and most precious natural aromatics in the world. For centuries, it has held a revered place in wellness, religious rituals, traditional medicine, and luxury perfumery. Its rich, layered scent is valued for its calming and meditative properties, and it has well-documented benefits in traditional Chinese medicine.
As wild agarwood becomes increasingly scarce, sustainably cultivated agarwood like Agartana’s is gaining global recognition among collectors, wellness advocates, and cultural stewards as a valuable and inheritable natural asset.
